Tell Me Something Tuesday

It seems that was only yesterday that I was writing my TMST *sigh* but it was a week ago. And Tuesday is here again and I’m here again with TMST AGAIN LoL
If this is the first time you see this meme and have no idea what it’s about, here is the deal:
Ever Tuesday Cambria, a super duper fab friend of mine and author of this wonderful book called Masquerade, will post a question on her site and we all can participate posting our answer in a super fun way.
So, here is this week question and my babbling answer:

If you could go into any book and visit the setting and characters which book would it be and why?

Iron Fey series, hands down, no question about it.

This is the part where I babble all the wonders and fabulousiness of this series and the mind-blowing world that was created by Julie Kagawa. However, I feel the words slipping from my mind and I can only feel how great it all feels.
I wish I was in a little more articulate state right now, but I’ll try to show you how this question was so easy to answer.
Imagine  a world full of beauty, magical beings with mesmerizing eyes and enchanting  voices. A world where there’s no such word as “impossible”. A world where you can find darkness even in the light.
To be in a world like this is like standing on the edge of the highest mountain:  you  have the most wonderful view, the overwhelming sensation of freedom and bewilderment; but also the certain of a painful death if you get distracted for even a second.
Are you scared? Do you think I’m mad for wanting to go into a place where magical beings can and will swallow me whole if a blink? Well, the danger make it all more alluring.
From magical forests to Icy Kingdoms;  From evil mermaids to flesh eating gnomes;  From hot lovable pranksters to cool  princes that can make you melt you a single look, this world has it all.

I wish I could be more lyric about it, but it’s 1am and my eyes are drifting close right know and I don’t feel too eloquent on the moment. Sorry peeps. But i'll let you with some visual aidd about this amazing series

As usual, for more super-duper fun answers for this meme go to cambriahebert.com.br.

Tipsy Friday #1

Hi, everyone. Welcome to my first post of my fab Tipsy Friday Meme.
This will be lots of fun and I hope you guys can have some laughs with me.  Just in case you don’t, at least you’ll leave with some cool new drink recipe. So, from where I see it, it’s a win win situation.
It’s summer here in Brazil, so for my first story/recipe, I’ll give you the most famous Brazilian drink= caipirinha. Yep. Super tasty and delicious. And with it, a little summer story.
So, I came across this recipe a long time ago, when I was spending my summer VK on the beach. My cousin and I were out, you know, taking in the people, and the places, and all that bullshit we say when we’re really looking for some hot guys.
There’re a little tend that had this really cute guy talking with his friends. I wasn’t familiar with the “I call dibs” politics, so we did the thing we always did to settle who would get the first pic. Odds and evens. I lost, that was a bummer, but  I got to meet his friends, and one of them, the chocolate skinned, brown hair and hazel eyed started to checking me out.
Turned out he was really funny and so we got carried away and soon we were having little lemon flavored kisses under the moonlight. Yeah, sounds really romantic, right?

Don’t get your little hearts circling over the heads just yet. He had a girlfriend and I had the pleasure to meet her in the next day. I met the bitch on the beach, when my cousin and I went to get some tan and that's when we saw them together. We were like:

You say it, girl. Yeah, that’s a love story that last like two seconds.
Oh, don’t cry for me, I don’t regret it. He was a good kisser, and it’s not like I was hearing wedding bells or anything like that. I was like sixteen at the time. So, I did what any girl in my place would do, I kicked his “family jewels” and went away.  I had this really ginormous sunglasses. It was a really dramatic exit. LoL

Now that you know the tell, I’ll leave you the recipe.

Caipirinha:

1 tahiti lemon peeled and cut in 8 pieces
3 tea spoons of sugar
2 doses of vodka (1 dose is 5sec of pouring the vodka)
4 cubes of ice

Put the lemon in a cup, pour the sugar over it and smash it with a wooden thing. I don’t really know how it’s called, but it looks like this:

After you did that till all the juice left the lemon, you pour the vodka and the ice cubes mixing all together.
Really easy breeze, right?

If you don’t like the alcoholic version, you can replace the vodka with water and have some lemonade LoL. I like to mix a little of mint candy in it. It tastes really good.

This was my first Tipsy Friday post and I hope you like it.

You are all invited to share your tips and stories with us. I would love to know any of your summer love that gone wrong stories too. LoL

Tell Me Something Tuesday

Hi, everyone. This week my post is a little late, sorry about that. Work is just driving me crazy and Carnaval, well, you all know how that can be, right? LoL
Sooooooo, lets get to this super fun meme. Here’s the question:

How do you feel about love triangles?

Well, I love them. I know, I know. They can hurt like hell, but I have a reason to love them. In a story, love triangles have more meaning than simply to choose the hottest guy or the hottest girl. That’s not it. When we see a love triangle in a story we need to look deeper them meets the eye.

The two boys/girls/choices or what do you want to call it, has more to do with the main character personality, moral and destiny then just to decide who is the  better kisser. They each have some trace or personality that is connected to the main character in some way. Her/his past, future, or just some really deep connection, that makes it almost impossible to choose between them both.
Lets take some examples of love triangles trough history, shall we?

King Arthur + Guinevere + Lancelot

This one is epic and the tension is clear in this story. Arthur and Lancelot are bffs and L still fell for G. Forget about Bros Before Hoes. We have serious issues here, loyalty, friendship, honor,  the future of a nation and lets not forget about the love.

Wendy + Peter + Tinker Bell

This is for the kids. We have this love triangle in our lives from the crib, man. Wendy and Tinker love Peter, and what does he do about it? Play with both like he doesn’t have a care in the world.  *Selfish pig.* I guess this is more like a “Lose the loser, girl, and find someone that deserves you.” Type of love triangle lesson.

Ben + Felicity + Noel

For those who don’t know what the heck is this love triangle about, I have one word: best heart break ever. Ok, so I guess it was a little more than one word.  This is my blog and I don’t care LoL
I love this series and this is such a great love triangle that I had to put it in here. So, the plot was like this: Felicity was this shy girl that loved Ben (the blond, super cool, super pop guy). In the last day of school he writes this really deep and loving message in her year book. So, she follows him to NY. I mean, she decides to go to the same college as he.  When she gets there, news flash Felicity: he doesn’t mean it!!! And he is like, I barely remember you and stuff.  Things change and all this other stuff happens so don’t worry about Felicity’s feelings just yet LoL
The point is, Ben is like this dream guy, the guy she follow, the guy  for whom she changed her life for, while  Noel is this super nice and wonderful new guy that  she falls in love with time. The question here is not who is the best looking, cose they’re soooo hot. Hands down! The main point is: You have a goal, you build your life around it, but the focus on this goal can blind you for everything else around you. This is a “learn who you are, what you want  and don’t be stuck in a future that may not be yours anymore” love triangle.

I could give so much more examples, but this post would become a novel and it would be boring.
Let me get this straight, I don't like love triangles that don't mean anything, that are just for  girls to sigh and get all team this and team that on it. This is a waste of my time. But, when it has a greater propose, it can be  amazing.
Bottom line is, Love triangles are not easy, they hurt, you suffer along with the character, but the story and the character wouldn't be the same without it. Life isn't easy either and we must face choices in life, i say we just pay more attention to the "love triangles" and we may have a chance to make stronger decisions in our lives learning from them.

The Dead Are Walking

The Walking Dead, Vol. 1: Days Gone ByeThe Walking Dead, Vol. 1: Days Gone Bye by Robert Kirkman
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Awesome!!!!!!!

I'll be back with a review, if the zombies don't catch me first.

Reviewed on 02/20/2012
This is the first review I make of a comic book graphic novel and is weird; cose it’s a really short story. Is like trying to make a review of the first episode of a TV show. However I’ll try to do my best with it.
Lets start with the graphics, they are awesome. The emotion on their faces, the terror, the blood, the zombies. They made my face twist and I really love it. It’s B&W, but I’m sure that if it was in colors it wouldn’t be so creepy. So, on the visual aspect I’m pleased with it, very much.

description

The plot: Imagine this. You are a cop, living your life like any other day. You get shot and end up in a hospital. Nothing unusual, right? But then, you wake up and you find yourself alone in a hospital bed. Completely alone? Well, not completely.

description

Your life is changed forever. Everything is changed and you don’t have any idea what happened while you were off in the hospital bed. I don’t know about you, but this plot just made me crap my pants.

description

I believe that the worst thing, the thing that never fails to scare everyone, no matter who you are, is simply the feeling of losing control. Humans feel save with stability and when this is gone, they shake like a little girl lost in the woods in a winter night.

Aside from this super unusual reality, the character actions and reactions are extremely believable. Even the zombies are portrayed in a unique way.
Stephen said that in his review and after I read it, I can say the he is right about that. The woman/zombie in the beginning of the book that is gashed in half and can’t even move is heart breaking. You think of her, the human that she was, in how she is suffering in a mindless and endless fate, always searching for something and incapable of reaching it.
I haven’t watch the TV series yet and never really have the need to, but this book really got my interest up a few notches.
I’ll certainly read the next to see what happens.

Expectations Can Be a Bitch

When I read the prologue on this book I was in love immediately. The prologue is the reason I wanted to read this book so very much. It’s dark, enticing and made my blood run cold in my veins. I was pretty excited to read this as you can see.

description

That being said, the rest of the book does not measure up to its amazing start. It really fell flat and unimpressive.

description

The plot is not the problem, cose the whole prophecy about a super vamp that can either destroy or save the whole vamp race is really good. Not that original, but good nevertheless. My main problem was the passing of it all. I felt myself drifting off constantly cose the way the things were conduce were too rushed for my taste. It felt like a constant verbal diarrhea.
My other problem were the characters, their actions and attitude is more like it. Let me give you an example. There’s this part where the vamps are supposed to introduce themselves to the newbie vamp. They say their names and their connection, so far so ok, but then, this really old and super powerful vamp just starts to spill her guts about who she is and her past and everything.
I’ve read enough vamp book to tell that this is not normal. As far as I’ve seen, vamps and other characters think of knowledge as power. The less someone knows about you, lesser is the power it holds over you. I’m no vamp and I still don’t spill my guts over some stranger that I’m meeting for the first time ever.
The lead character also had some weird reaction over all. Is like, she just accept everything as it is and don’t question anything. Her life, her family, it all just vanishes and this new reality becomes her whole reality instantly. There’s no steps, no time to cope, nothing. She is a teenager. No teenager would ever act like that.
The typos were a pain too. English is not my first language and God knows that I make mistakes even in my own language. Typos usually don’t bother me, but in this one there’s a lot of it to actually make me pause to consider the sentence I’m reading. It gets a little annoying.
I really wanted to like this book, really. But I didn’t. The main reason is because it tricked me with this amazing cover and this breathtaking prologue.

Tipsy Friday Meme

Hi everyone. I have some great news for you all. I’ll have my first meme. It will be real simple guys and lots of fun.
So, I was thinking of making a meme for a long time, but couldn’t think of something fun to do. What do you do when you need some advice? Yep, you go to your friends. And that’s what I did.
I was like, Oh, what should I do? And they were like, you should do about something you are good at and that make people smile. And I was like, I know that already. That’s no help. I need to know that something I’m good at.
Then my good friend said something that made me blink. She said “You drink.”
Let me explain. I do drink when I go out and since I have no shame what so ever when it comes to talk to people I never met before, I often ask tips for the bartender. That is a great way of 1 - learn how to make a fab new drink and 2 - meet a hot guy.
That’s why she said “you drink” and that’s when I had the idea of making this meme.
Here I’ll post a drink recipe and the story of how I came across it. Don’t worry; I’ll always post the virgin version too and some drinks will not have any alcohol what so ever. A good drink has to taste good with or without alcohol in it.  I don’t drink to get drunk and I’m a responsible drinker.
Right now I’m making the header and the button. I want them fabulous. Next Friday will be my first post.
You can all be part of the meme too. If you have some good story to share or maybe a delicious recipe, be welcome to share it with us.

First of all I want to say Happy Valentine’s Day to everyone. Here in Brazil we celebrate this Holliday on June 12º.
But aside from being Valentine’s Day, today is also Tuesday and what do we do on Tuesdays? Yep, that’s right. IS MEME DAY!!!!!
Today Cambria is giving us something romantic to babble about and I had a great time coming up with this post.
I hope you like it.

Who are your favorite book couples?

Oh, my gosh.  I loved this question cose I’m a sucker for book romance. Wait, let me take a breather first cose I’m kind of hyperventilated with excitement here.  Inhale, exhale. Inhale, exhale. Ok, I’m a little better.
Lets get this post going then.

My first couple is Cathy and Heathcliff from Wuthering Heights.  *Sigh*

They are so in love and my eyes get tears just remembering their fate. Vengeance, love, hate, torment. I love my romance the same way I love my drinks: Fiery, strong, addictive and that leaves me with a bittersweet aftertaste that makes me want more and more.  For those that don’t know the story, Heathcliff was a little boy that Cathy’s dad picked out of the street. He fell for Cathy and their life was anything other than a turmoil from start. They lose each other in midst of rage and misunderstanding.  Can you feel the love? The tragic, stormy love that leave you crying, broken and asking for more? Yep, I sure do.

My second couple is Vlad and Mina from Dracula.

He travelled oceans of time to be with his true love once more. How can anyone resist such an undying love from an undying man? He is evil, ruthless, a murderer that I’m unable to resist.  I guess everybody knows this love story, but in case you don’t, Vlad is this really evil Romany Prince that when retunes home finds his Princess dead. She killed herself cose she tough he was dead and simply couldn’t live on without him. He decides to find her no matter what and bind himself with the dark side of the force. He lives for centuries after her and then, one day, he meets Mina and she is like a mirrored image of his lost love. I’ll stop here cose I don’t want to make your life easy if you don’t know this story yet. Go read the boom or watch the movie cose is sooooo worth it.

My next loving couple is Kat and Bones from Night Huntress Series. Oh, they are wonderful together and I love them with all my heart.

Kat is this half vamp that thinks all vamps are bad and then, one fine night she meets Bones. Oh, I can still remember her first words to him: “Want to fuck?” So romantic. LoL
She tries to kill him, he beats her head open, you know, the classic love story.
The best thing about them is how they are soooo not perfect. They fight, they don’t get along all the time, but they love each other so much that they would never try to change the other. They love every little flaw and every little mistake about each other.
This is the kind of stormy, fiery love that makes the life or the undeath worth it.  Love them.

For last but not least. I give you Lara and Yuri from Doctor Zhivago.

I know, I know, that’s not a book, but is such a heartbreaking love story that I couldn’t left out of this post.
Zhivago meets Lara, they feel something and then life happens. The war breaks out and they keep missing each other. I mean, I was biting my fists for most part of the movie from the tension. Their lives are constantly brushing each other but there’s always something happens.
This is tragic, I’ll not lie to you, but when you finish watching this you’ll have a whole new way of seeing things. Yep, life changing stuff.

Well, this was my post. I hope you like it and for more posts from this meme go to cambriahebert.com.

To Be Real

The Velveteen Rabbit: Or How Toys Become RealThe Velveteen Rabbit: Or How Toys Become Real by Margery Williams

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

‘What is REAL?’ asked the Rabbit one day, when they were lying side by side near the nursery fender1, before Nana2 came to tidy the room. ‘Does it mean having things that buzz inside you and a stick-out handle?’

‘Real isn’t how you are made,’ said the Skin Horse. ‘It’s a thing that happens to you. When a child loves you for a long, long time, not just to play with, but REALLY loves you, then you become Real.’

‘Does it hurt?’ asked the Rabbit.

‘Sometimes,’ said the Skin Horse, for he was always truthful. ‘When you are Real you don’t mind being hurt.’

‘Does it happen all at once, like being wound up,’ he asked, ‘or bit by bit?’

‘It doesn’t happen all at once,’ said the Skin Horse. ‘You become. It takes a long time. That’s why it doesn’t happen often to people who break easily, or have sharp edges, or who have to be carefully kept. Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don’t matter at all, because once you are Real you can’t be ugly, except to people who don’t understand.’

description

The writing is wonderful and the story is heartbreaking in a wonderful way. How can a story break your heart in a wonderful way? Well, when I find myself with tears of sadness and happiness all together. That’s when my heart is breaking in a magical way.

The little Rabbit is so sweet and his wish to be real made me think of the story in AI. Is not that sad, but the way the Little Rabbit believed his dream could come true is so heartfelt and made my heart sing.

I love this book. I smiled and cried with it. I learned new things and saw the world with brand knew eyes because of it.

A story like this one makes me feel like I’m a little girl again. A girl with innocent eyes and a hopeful heart.

Review: Some Girls Bite

Some Girls BiteSome Girls Bite by Chloe Neill

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Really good start for this series,, I luv this mix of kick ass lead character+loads of sarcasm+drop dead sexy guy that you want to punch and kiss at the same time

Grab your free pass and enjoy the ride ;)

description

Reviewed in 09/02/2012

The plot - As simple as it says on the synopses. Vamps got out of the coffin, people go gaga over it. Some don’t like to know they are snack and there are others that can’t wait to get on the menu of some hot vamp. Merit is the first. She is like:” Oh, vamps. You are so dead to me. Go to your tomb or something.” But then she gets attacked and voilà, she is one of them now. Karma’s a bitch. Someone should’ve told her this.

description

The Characters- They are fun and I like them already, but this is just the first book so I don’t have all that much to say about them. Just that Merit is a kick ass baby vamp, Mallory is a super-duper friend, I love Merit’s grandfather, he is the best. Catcher, well, I wouldn’t mind if he catches me. Got it? Cached me? LoL Ok, is not that funny, but he is pretty hot and that’s the point. Morgan is so charming and wickedly smart. I really have to keep my eye on him. Ethan, Ethn, Ethan, What will I do with you? He is one piece of hot, blond, wicked, kick ass, drop dead sexy, want to bite you, want you to bite me vampire. Is it just me or just got hot in here? Oh, lets not forget the nerd. Jeff is sooo nerdylishous. I would totally date him and would be unforgettable. When we kiss would be like atomic explosion <.clapping hands and spreading my arms for emphasis.> Yeah, legendary stuff right here.

description

The Written - This author has this light writing that is effortless to get into. She got my attention and my smile for all the story. It’s first person POV and it’s Marit’s POV so I get to see every detail of the hotties that she meets with. Besides, her inter monologue got me cracking up LoL really fun writing right here people.

The recording for the Audio Book - Nice reading, nice voice and nice interpretation of the text. She doesn’t forces the guys’ voice and gives them the attitude I love so much in the writing. I really like it.

Considerations - This is the first book so we get only the tip of the iceberg in terms of story and development. But I can say that this book set me up for a great ride. I love this book but I’ll be honest: this is for pleasure, guilty and delicious pleasure.

And now, I’ll leave you with some visual add:

My Merit:

My Ethan,, prrrrrrrr:

My Catcher,, prrr :

My Mallory:

My Soul to Save (Soul Screamers, #2)My Soul to Save by Rachel Vincent

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Reviewed in 02/08/2012

The Plot - This is the second book, so the plot is better and has more to it. Is like this. This super-duper singer has like days to live and she sold her soul for fame and fortune. What’s the biggy? When she dies her soul will end up with this creepy alien or something and she will suffer for like eternity. Soooo, K&N are off to the rescue. That’s a cool and creepy plot. Me like it.

description

The Characters - We meet this uber ripper. She is really cool and is like a rock star of the rippers. Nash, K, Todd and the other are in there too. K is not yet what once she was, but I keep my hopes up for it.

The Writing - I really like the writing. She has a really good way of telling a story and is enjoyable to read her stuff. First peeps narrative and it follows the first book without any major lapse of time. Really cool.

The Audiobook Recording - Me like it.

Considerations- There’s a lot of longing and eye humping around K&N, and it gets a little tiresome to read about how Nash is hot and perfect and K is like the average and blablabla. I couth myself rolling my eyes around this parts. It was like, get a room already and get it over with. But there were very cool parts. We learn much more about the netherworld (I probably spell it wrong). We see creepier characters and the plot get a lot deeper than in the first one. Some things are a little too obvious, but maybe it’s because I’m too smart. LoL

description

Or maybe not. LoL

So, the story gets really exciting and our loving trio makes some really hard decisions. The best part was to find out that K is not the lovely girl and she actually has a dark side. She can be evil and I was not stuck in a parallel universe where everybody loves K and she loves everyone back. This was really relieving to know. I have hopes for the next books in this series cose this has a lot of potential.
