Sorry Guys.

Hi, guys!!! My blogger account is having so many problems lately, so sorry. I just hope that is all solved now and I’ll not have anymore “difficulties” posting.

So, I’m writing to let you know that I’ll make some changes in BABAS (BabblingAboutBooksAndStuff). LoL
I’ll have more MEMES posted and catch up with my reviews too. I promise to be more active and get my s*it together to be able to do that.  I’ll have more giveaways and try to make more green choices and make a difference with my posts, like something good to our planet and stuff. Oh Gosh, I sound just like a politician.

Sorry, but my grownup work is killing me lately and, I don’t know if you’ve heard that before, but editing is a bitch! I feel like I can say every line in my book by heart by now. Oh, yeah, I guess I didn’t tell you guys, but I’m editing my book and very soon, I hope, I’ll have it ready and in my hands. *crossing my fingers and wishing really hard*

Unfortunately is still in Portuguese, but I intend to translate it pretty soon to English so you all can appreciate my wonderful writing and overwhelming plot with my magical characters. *coff* LoL

So, you should see some changes along the week, but don’t be scared, is for the best, I hope. LoL

XoXo and thanx for your patience!

Review: Flaming Wings, Heartaches and Teeths

Daughter of Smoke and BoneDaughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I know I said I would review this later, but I can’t help myself. I need to share what I’m feeling, I need it now!!!

description.

The Plot — I don’t even know where to begin. This plot is crazy, man. I’ll try to make this simple, but I can’t promise anything. So, Karue is this teenager girl living in Prague. She loves to draw, have a kick ass friend and a boyfriend you want to kick in the ass. She has blue hair and hamsa's eyes tattooed on her palms. She works doing errands for a chimera named Brimstone. All is well and crazy as always until some strange black hand marks starts to appear on Brimstone doors all around the world. That, my friends, is the first sign of the vent hitting the shit. No, is not the other way around, cose when the vent hit the shit, oh man, the shit hit everywhere and everyone.

The Characters — Unique doesn’t even cover how awesome these characters are.
Let’s start by the main character:

Karou

description

She is talented and kicks ass like no one else. I love how sweet and vindictive she can be. Just like a real girl LoL. In the beginning of the book she had her heart broken and she makes him pay in the most enjoyable way evah. I love her.

Zuzana

description

She is Karou’s best friend and the scariest short girl you will ever meet. Zuz is an artist and her mind is out of this world. Maybe that’s why she’s Karou’s best friend and why I love her so.

Kazimir

description

Remember how I told you that Karou had her heart broken? Well, this is the jack ass that broke it. Selfish, chitting, drop dead sexy, sweet talker, son of a bitch, jack ass. Or, as Brimstone once said, an Inessential penis.

Akiva

description

This is what I call an essential penis. A warrior with flaming wings and a bleeding heart. *sigh*

The Writing — Oh, this writing is every reader’s wet dream. I don’t like much details cose my attention span is, as I said many, many times before, of a 5yo. So it took me a while to get into this book, but I have to say that once I was in I didn’t want to get out. Reading this book was like being naked feeling a thousand butterflies over my body. It may not seem too good, but the wings flapping tickle me. I like tickles. *giggle* Bottom line is, I feel ashamed and unworthy of writing a review of a book so wonderfully writing. There are no words I can use to make it justice. So I’ll give you a pic to show how awesome it is.

description.

The Audio Book Recording — I love this girl accent. Zuz reading made me go and start to learn speak Romanian. For reals. I went to google and started to try to speak. So lame. The volume was nice, the tone had a nice modulation and the interpretation was really good. This book is subdivided in parts and there’s a really cool soundtrack that made it really scary and dramatic. I really like this recording. It really put me in the mood.

Considerations — I love this book. It's the kind of book you keep trying to decipher every step of the way and makes you crazy how you can't ever get it right. It drove me crazy the fact I couldn't figure it out on my own what Brimstone did with all those teethes. Even though I love this book to the point of wanting to start stalking its author, I have to admit that this book isn’t for everyone. In order to love this book you need to have a very open mind and really like craziness. You also have to love fairy tales and star-crossed lovers. Ok, imagine this: Romeo & Juliet +Tristan & Isolde + A Midsummer Night's Dream + Matrix + Iron Fey + Pocahontas + Helen of Troy = PURE AWESOMENES !!!!!
I can’t say more or else I’ll ruin the most wonderful story ever. Just trust me. You need to read this!!!!! NOW!!!!! Really, this book made me want to dye my hear blue and made me draw an eye on my palm with a pen, while I was at work for crying out loud!!! GO.READ.THIS.BOOK.NOW!

Ok, so lets get to the fun part of this read along: The Super duper fun questions. Yeyyyyy !!!!!

Week 4 read along questions

Final discussion questions

1.       Heven develops a new “supernatural power”. She remarks that it isn’t that exciting of a power. Is this a power you would like to have, if not what kind of supernatural power would you like to have?

I don’t know. It seems a little overwhelming to me. I suppose is just like having a bunch of people telling secrets that you don’t really want to know and you can’t tell them to shut up cose they can’t. It kind of sucks in a way, just like hearing thoughts. I wouldn’t want that monkey on my shoulder.

But a power that would be super cool to have is to fly.

I would love to fly and feel the wind against my skin and all that crap we use to hear about it. It’s unfortunate that I am afraid of heights. *sigh*

2.       Which character do you think makes the biggest internal change throughout the course of this book?  Is there a situation in your life that you can reflect back on as an experience that changed your life for the better?

Hum, let me think for a moment. The more obvious answer would be Heven or Sam, but I believe that someone else had a really big change going on : Kim. She used to see Heven as a weak and shy girl that she could boss around and now that changed. I guess that this was something considerable for Kim to cope.
My breaking point was when my heart was broken for the first time. I was young, naïve and believed that he really loved me until I found him with another girl. Yeah, just like a million girls before me, but the fact that a boyfriend chits is still beyond me. I mean, if you don’t really love someone, why bother to say you love him or her? I feel that the betrayal is what made my heart bleed. The fact that he could lie to my face and share secrets and as easily  do the same with someone else. The worst part was that when he said he was sorry, he used the excuse that she didn’t meant nothing to him. I was like: WTF? I’m not wasting my words with you, cose  you are not worth it. But, now I know better than to believe in easy smiles that disguise ugly hearts.

3.       Who is your favorite character and why?

Oh, come on. This is not fair. If you’ve read my review you already know how I feel about a certain hellhound. *prrrrrrrrr…*

Just in case you don’t, I’ll tell you. I love Sam and I would punch Heven in the face to be with him anyday of the week. Yeah, I would punch a fictional character to be with another fictional character. You’ve got a problem with that? You wanna a piece of me?

4.       When the book ends the reader has an idea of what the next book will involve. Do you think the book ended in the appropriate place?

I’m not the best person to say that cose I wish it wouldn’t have ended cose I want to know what happens next. LoL

5.       Do you have any predictions for the next book in the series, Charade?

Any predictions? Oh, well, I think I have: Lots of awesomeness!!!!!! And lots of Sam!!!!*sigh*

Well guys, this was the last questions and I hope you loved this book as much as I did.
Oh, and I can’t wait to read your reviews about it!!!!!

Tell Me Something Tuesday

Hi, peeps!!! I know it’s been I wile since my last participation in this FAB meme, but I’m back!!!!!! LoL

The big question is:

If you could meet anyone (living or dead) who would it be and why?

In the Hounded read along we had a similar question, but it doesn’t matter how many times I answer this question I still can’t decide cose I want to meet so many people. Wait, this is my post, this is my blog and I don’t have to choose only one!!!! So I’ll chose

1º Steven Tyler

Oh, man. This is “THE MAN”. I love him, I really do. He is the main reason I still watch American Idol. He is fun, potty mouth, sexy man and I would love to meet him in person. And I wouldn’t mind if he sings “Crazy” Just for me. *sigh*

2º Julie Kagawa

This girl, this girl is amazing. For those that doesn’t know her, she is the author of one of my favorite series ever, The Iron Fey. She came up with a whole world and creatures that it’s certain to make your mind blow. I would love to drink tea with her under a tree and watch as the rabbit runs around with a clock and screaming “I’m late! I’m late!” Yeah, she is magical like that.

3º Erico Veríssimo

He is a Brazilian author and was born in a city close to mine. When he was a little boy he was really sick, then her dad lost all his money, and a lot of bad things happened to him, but he was strong and nothing could silence his mind or kill his spirit. He is an inspiration for me, and for many who aspires to be an author.

4º Laini Taylor

This girl is crazy. If you’ve read Daughter of Smoke and Bone you know what I’m talking about. Besides, she has pink hair. Who wouldn’t want to meet someone that has pink hair and makes magic with words? I would love to have tea with her while talking about stomach butterflies and the importance of marshmallows on the hot chocolates.

So, these are a few of the people I would love to meet. This was fun, lets do it again real soon.

Tipsy Friday Meme

Hi, everyone!!!! Welcome to Tipsy Friday!!!!!!

Today we’ll have a more instructive meme. I’ll talk about things I’ve learned with my vast experience *coff* and watching my friends and stuff like that.
In life, we always make mistakes and we will always do. It’s not about being perfect, it’s about making mistakes, learn from them so we can make new mistakes and not repeating the same again.
So, I made a lot of mistakes and, hopefully I’ll make many more, but I think that the right thing to do is pass along the little I’ve learned so you guys can also learn with my wisdom *coff* LoL

Lessons I keep to my heart:

1º Not everybody wants to know the truth —

Since we are little babies we always hear how awesome is to tell the truth, and if we don’t we will burn in hell for all eternity.  I have catholic parents, in case you’re wondering. LoL The thing is, tell the truth is wonderful and, yes, it is the right thing to do, but not all the time it isn’t.
If your friend is trying on a pair of jeans that make her ass look ginormous and she turns and asks: “Does this jeans make me look fat?” The truth would be: “Hell yeah. Like I’m looking right into the sun.” Then you cover your eyes and run around the room screaming “I’M BLIND! I’M BLIND!” In this case the truth wouldn’t be very kind or productive, so we say something that looks like the truth but is not the whole truth: “You know, what? Maybe the blue one will look cuter with that top.” And give it your best *don’t look down to the ginormous ass* smile.

2º Mariah’ Carey songs are the best ones to let the pressure out of your system —

When I feel myself stressed and overwhelmed I like to sing, really loud and squeally. I even have a mic that I plug on my stereo. Did I mention my neighbors love me? Yep, they do(not). LoL
So, one of the singers that I love to sing and let me light as a feather is Mariah Carey. *sigh* I sing till I get aphonic and I love every single minute of it. My neighbors, well, I don’t really care about them.
These is one of my fave:

Mariah Carey - Fantasy

When you walk by every night
Talking sweet and looking fine
I get kind of hectic inside
Baby, I'm so into you
Darling, if you only knew
All the things that flow through my mind
But it's just a

Chorus:
Sweet, sweet fantasy baby
When I close my eyes you come and take me
On and on and on
It's so deep in my daydream
But it's just a sweet, sweet fantasy baby

Images of rapture
Creep into me slowly
As you're going to my head
And my heart beats faster
When you take me over
Time and time and time again
But it's just a

(Chorus x2)

I'm in heaven with my boyfriend
My lovely boyfriend
There's no beginning and there is no end
Feels like I'm dreaming but I'm not sleeping

(Chorus x2)

Sweet, sweet fantasy baby
Sweet, sweet fantasy baby
Fantasy

Now, can you tell me it doesn’t make you want to sing your lungs out?

3º When you are really, really mad, stop, take a look at everything around you and laugh —

It seems crazy, but I get mad at the smallest stuff sometimes and my blood boils like you can’t imagine. So, when I feel like I’m about to explode, I take a deep breath and look at the situation like I’m not involved, from a new perception. Nine out of ten, is something so incredibly stupid that I start to laugh.
No, is not like my point is stupid, but I just don’t think is worth on the long run. Is like, do I really want to smack my sister’s head against the wall cose she ruined my brand new blouse?

I mean, there’s much better ways to solve this. A piece of stuff don’t worth the trouble or the bile liking into my gut. Besides, the hospital will be a pain to pay. LoL

4º Try to learn with the books you read and movie you watch, no matter how dumb it may seem —

That one was my Lit teacher that said to me. He always told us that we should learn at least one thing with the movies we watch and the books we read. We need to try to see beyond the surface and dig for deeper meanings. With him I’ve learned that even the shallowest plot can have something to teach me. Not convinced yet? Well, let me give you an example:
With the Fallen series I’ve learned that a pretty cover can full me once, twice and trice, but after three books and no plausible explanation for any of the questions I wanted answer I see it’s time to give up. So, I can say I’ve learned that sometimes is ok to give up on a series and keep your reader’s dignity, or part of it. LoL

5º There’s nothing that can’t be fixed with chocolate —

PMS, heartache, etc. There’s one answer to all your pains and this answer is: Chocolate!

The taste, sweet, creamy, enveloping your mouth and making all your nerve’s ending tingle. I don’t need to say how much I love chocolate, right? I believe is the most magical thing we, humans, have.
So, to prove my point I’ll let you with a recipe that is wonderful and is from one of my kitchen idols = Nigella!!!! She is the best, cose her recipes are simple and she even has some really fast ones. The express recipes!!! LoL And this is one of them, so if you are like me and love chocolate, but doesn’t like to waste time, pick you pen and paper cose this one is a keeper.

Instant Chocolate Mousse

INGREDIENTS

150g mini marshmallows
50g soft butter
250g good dark chocolate (minimum 70% cocoa solids), chopped into small pieces
60ml hot water from a recently boiled kettle
1 x 284ml tub double cream
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

METHOD

Serves: 4-6

Put the marshmallows, butter, chocolate and water in a heavy-based saucepan.
Put the saucepan on the hob, over heat, though keep it fairly gentle, to melt the contents, stirring every now and again. Remove from the heat.
Meanwhile, whip the cream with the vanilla extract until thick, and then fold into the cooling chocolate mixture until you have a smooth, cohesive mixture.
Pour or scrape into 4 glasses or ramekins, about 175ml each in capacity, or 6 smaller (125ml) ones, and chill until you want to eat. The sooner the better!

For more Nigella’s wonderful recipes go to Nigella’s site and pay your respect.
Thanx for stopping by and see you next time J

WEEK THREE Questions:

April 19th – Heidi at Rainy Day Ramblings

Chapters 16-24

5 Discussion Questions

1.       Heven’s mother has definite ideas about Heven and her scars – what they mean – and their relationship is strained. Do you think their relationship can be saved?

I believe in vampires, I believe in fairies, I believe in mermaids, I even believe in unicorns, but Heven and her mother’s relationship?

Oh, this ship has sailed, babe. That women is a small minded, ignorant idiot, and Heven is way better without her.

2.       Sam tells Heven about how he came to be living on his own, how his parents kicked him out after he became what he is. He doesn’t seem angry though, he seems to accept it. Would you be angry? Do you think he should be?

Let me think…

HELL YEAH! I would be way angrier than he was, but I guess I would get sad and the pain would be stronger than the anger, I guess. His dad seams a shmuck!
I’m not sure that he is worth the trouble. Karma will take care of him soon enough. *wink*

3.       During these chapters, Heven and Sam visit the Inbetween and meet Airis (aka The Hope). Were you surprised by this series of events? Do you think a place like the InBetween really exists?

A little, cose it was kind of out of the storyline and stuff. I guess anything is possible, especially since these kind of place appears in other stories too. In mythology that is very common, I guess.  I sure seen it in the Iron Fey series. But that is the beauty of fantasy, you can never say what it’s truly false or true. LoL

4.       When Heven’s scars are no longer a part of her and she says “she no longer recognizes herself” – do you think that the absence of her scar will change her once more?

I don’t like to say this, but I don’t know. I guess the scars were something like a test, so she could see things that otherwise would pass her by.  Like, let see, Sam. LoL That’ssooooo worth it. LoL

5.       Gran is very accepting of Heven and of Sam. Do you think that she understands more – knows more than she lets on about Heven’s life or do you think her love is just unconditional?

It’s what they say, still waters run deep. LoL Gran knows something, I can tell, but I don’t know what, yet. LoL I bet it’s goooooood.

Well, peeps, that was week 3. The read along is coming to an end, but don’t be sad, cose we still have one more week of super fun posts.

C Yah!!!!!!

Review : The Help

The HelpThe Help by Kathryn Stockett
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

description.

The big changes in our lives don’t happen the way we plan. The big changes happen in the little details. In the extra second it took for you to leave your house making you lose your bus; in the way the cashier talked to you; in the little kid that smiled at you from across the street. The big changes, the ones that really matter, arrive without warning and when you realize what happened it’s too late to stop it. When your eyes are open you can’t close them and forget what you’ve learned or seen. If you watched Constantine or Matrix, you know what I’m talking about.

The Plot — It’s revolutionary! Skeeter is a single girl living in Mississippi and wants to be a writer. Following the wise advice from a big shot editor, she comes up with the idea for writing a book showing the point of view of the help. At first you may think that this plot is not that exceptional, but you have to remember this was in the sixties, racism was in full force back then, and the place was Mississippi of all places. Black women, the ones that raised the white kids, cared for them and had to see them grow just to follow the same path as their racist parents.
You can see how that side of the story can be dangerous to be given voice in a society that accept the beating up of an old black man as punishment for using the white folks bathroom. When the price of your words is so high, a book full of them can become a death sentence. See? I told you this plot were revolutionary.

The Characters — OH—MY—GOSH! Ok, ok, I need to calm down *taking a deep breath* since this book is told by 3 of the most amazing women I have ever met, I’ll focus on them first.

Aibileen Clark

description.

She is the first one we meet in this story. Aibillen is starting her new job in a new house. She take care of kids and helps the white moms to take care of the hose and their children. Once the kid is grown she moves on to another family. This is her life and she was fairly fine with it until her own son dies. Her heart darkens and she is no longer so forgiven as once she was. Now she sees the things that she once pretended not to see, her lost has changed her.
In the Leefolt's house Aibileen takes care of little Mae Mobley.

description

Through her eyes we see changes happening and how appearances can be miss leading. Love runs deeper than blood or skin color. With Aibileen I'v learn that one word can change the destiny of a person. One word of encouragement can make a person believe in itself as much as a disproving one can destroy souls and crush dreams.

"You is kind.
You is smart.
You is important."

Minny Jackson

description.

"Minny is "every Southern white woman's nightmare. I adore her."

She is wonderful and a kick ass maid. She cooks and bakes like no one, especially cakes, and have a fierce tongue on her snappy mouth. In everyone's eyes she is strong, tough and nobody messes with her. In reality, Minny is a cat that was burned too many times and learned to attack first and always be prepared for disappointments.
After some stuff she goes to work in Celia's house.

description.

There she faces situations and choices that change her in a deep way. With her I've learn that a hard exterior can hide a heart of gold, and that open up can be scary but sometimes is worth it.

Eugenia “Skeeter” Phelan

description.

She is the black sheep among the white and fluffy ones. She comes home after finishing college and is trying to find Constantine, the black maid that raised her.

description.

She is a member of the Bridge Club and is also the editor of their Journal where she writes about the social events and stuff like that. She gets a job in a local newspaper and is trying to get her dreams started but all her mom can think is how her daughter ain’t married yet. Talk about disappointment.

description.

Remember what I’ve said in the beginning of this review? About how the big changes can sneak up on you? Well, this started with little signals, but the one that I took to my heart and made me change was the advice that Skeeter received after sending a letter to a publisher. It was something like: “Write about what disturbs you, particularly if it bothers no one else.”
How many times we see things that bother u, but is something that looks so normal to everybody else? Just because it’s done a long time doesn’t mean is right. After this you can start open you eyes as well, but be aware cose once you starts seeing you can’t go back to being blind.
So, sparks happens and Skeeter puts the chain of events in motion to what would be the biggest thing that ever happened in her life and many others.

description.

All the other characters as amazing too and have a fundamental part in the whole story. Just like a puzzle where each of the little pieces is irreplaceable.
One in particular is:

Hilly Holbrook

description.

Boogie man has a face, and a southern accent too. LoL She is the devil, but I can’t say I hate her. That’s just how she was raised, racist and mean to people. With her I’ve learned that even a terrible person like her can have a heart. Hilly is kind, sweet and loving with her kids. I can’t hate a person that can love that much even if she is evil. Because of her I knew I would love this book.

The Writing — Oh, the writing,,,, I love it, love it, love it,,,,,,,

description.

Yep,, that’s pretty much what happened. LoL
So, the story is told mainly by three POVs, Aibileen, Minny and Skeeter. In the beginning I thought that it could be confusing, but this author played so well that I was in love with it.
The way she writes remind me of the book The Color Purple, in how the words have character and feelings in it. This is one of the most heartfelt and unique writing I have ever read.

The Audiobook Recording — Oh, the audiobook recording,, it’s enchanted *sigh*

description.

It’s read by three different narrators, well, four actually, and this makes all the difference for me. Each one of them had its unique voice, way of speaking and that made them seem even more real.
The voice, the tone, the volume it was all great. The reading had a great flow to it and the audio was pleasant to my ears. The interpretation of the text was simply sublime.
Pay attention to these narrators cose these are keepers and one of them is in the movie:

Jenna Lamia Bahni Turpin Cassandra Campbell Octavia Spencer

Considerations — O laughed, I cried and I loved every minute of it.
My grandfather was raised in a farm long, long, long ago, and I remember his stories about the woman that raised him from crib. She was a black maid and he used to tell me how he never forgot her. When he got sick, he called her name during the fever. Some of the stories in this book made me remember this and how I never really understood what that meant till now.

Ok,I could talk about this book seven ways till Sunday, but this is getting too long and I don’t want this to get larger than the book, so I’m just gonna say: I LOVE THIS BOOK AND EVERYONE SHOULD READ IT!
